Curriculum Simplification Begins with Updated .NET Courses
May 9, 2007.
As Microsoft continues its rapid introduction of new .NET technologies, it has become
important for a .NET training curriculum to be as simple in structure as possible, minimizing
course overlap and variations. In this way each major technology can be covered in a
definitive course that is kept always up-to-date and is made available in both C# and
Visual Basic versions.
Towards this end Object Innovations has begun a comprehensive reorganization of its .NET curriculum.
It will culminate with its courseware arranged in logical categories according to a new
four-digit course numbering scheme. Until the new curriculum is complete, we will continue
to use the old three-digit course numbers where applicable.
Our first course with a new four digit number is our core course on the .NET Framework,
which has been expanded from three to four days. There are also some improvements and
corrections. As usual, there are parallel C# and Visual Basic versions.
We have retained the three-day versions of the course with the old course numbers, with the
word "Essentials" added to the title. These courses pair with the two-day "C# Essentials" and
"Visual Basic Essentials" courses to create effective five-day training for experienced programmers.
We have made some minor corrections and enhancements to our introductory C# course:.
We are dropping the following courses. Indicated replacements are shown.
- CS1, Introduction to C# (replacement: 410)
- CS2, Accelerated Introduction to C# (replacement: 411)
- CS5, .NET Framework Foundations Using C# (replacement: 4112)
We have dropped a number of other courses, for which suggested replacements are available. See our
replacement courseware list.
Since .NET 2.0 has now been available for a year and a half, we are delisting the .NET 1.1 versions
of our core courseware. However, the courses can still be ordered. See our
delisted courseware list.
The sum of these changes should be a curriculum that is easier to understand and to use in
targeting the training needs of your customers. We will be announcing further changes in
the coming months. If you would be interested in seeing our roadmap planning documents,
please let us know and we will be glad to provide you with copies. Also, your feedback and
suggestions are always welcome.
Shipments of the new courseware begin immediately.
