Object Innovations Releases Revised Java Programming Course
December 8, 2004. Java 1.5, the first fundamental upgrade of the Java language itself, has been attracting a great deal of interest. Object Innovations has been tracking the "Tiger" release all year, and today announces the first of several course revisions supporting the new technology. As broad adoption of Java 1.5 is expected to take some time, OI plans to support training in the current (and almost universally used) 1.4 platform, along with the emergent 1.5 release.
Course 103, "Java Programming," is now available in its own revision 1.4.2; it still focuses on Java 1.4 development, but offers students a look ahead to the exciting new features in the 1.5 version of the Java language, including:
- Generics
- Typesafe Collections API
- Native enumerations
- Auto-boxing (conversion between primitives and wrapper objects)
- Simplified "for-each" loop
- Variable-length parameter lists
As adoption of Java 1.5 accelerates, Object Innovations will be ready with fully compatible courseware. Revision 1.5 of Course 103 is scheduled for release in January, and we will support both versions for at least the first half of 2005. Revision 1.5 thoroughly absorbs the new language features, dispensing with what will quickly become outmoded coding techniques in favor of the easier, safer, and more productive patterns that are emerging as best practices for Java 1.5.
Stay tuned, too, for similar updates to Course 102, "Introduction to Java," as well as a shorter skills-upgrade course intended for experienced Java programmers who want to ramp up quickly on the new language features.
Shipment of the new courseware begins immediately.
